Why I created Desmolysium

I hold an MD and am currently in my residency. Related to the field I am in, for the past decade or so, it has been my hobby to constantly run experiments in the biological laboratory of my life. My goal is essentially to “maximize” my biology.

If I want to improve something, I research it, decide on an intervention, implement it, track the results, and draw conclusions to find out whether something works for me or not. Thus far, I have experimented with a vast number of interventions, some of them more extreme than others.

Some of these experiments “work” but most of them fail. However, almost every experiment teaches me something. I felt that some of my experiences and findings should not be kept to myself, so I created Desmolysium. In ancient Greek δεσμός (desmos) = “shackle” and λύσις (lysis) =  “destruction”. Desmo-lysium: The place where (biological) shackles are destroyed.

The information on this website represents a compilation of my interpretation of scientific research, personal opinions, and my n=1 experiences.

It is important to note that what works for me may not work for others. We are all different and, for a variety of reasons, different people often respond differently to the same intervention, sometimes radically so.

What makes Desmolysium different

Recently, the term “biohacking” has become associated with the use of numerous, often questionable supplements, or merely associated with simple healthy living. The term “biomaxxing” more accurately captures the sometimes extreme nature of the content found on this website.

Where to start

I suggest starting with How I Biohack My Vitality or reading a few of my Weekly observations. Alternatively, pick any of the links below that pique your interest.

Newsletter

Many of the articles on this website are currently in the final stages of revision and will be released over the next few months. To get notified of new releases, sign up for the Desmolysium newsletter. I also share my weekly observations in the newsletter.

Website structure explained

On this website, there are multiple kinds of content:

  • Weekly observations

  • Main articles

  • Topic-specific articles

  • Experience reports

Weekly observations

Each week, I share two observations in my newsletter. These span a variety of topics, ranging from observations I made during recent self-experiments, changes to my protocol, neuropharmacology tidbits, longevity stuff, pharmacological self-enhancements, hormone replacement, etc.

For my weekly observations, click here.

Main articles

There are two main articles. One covers how I personally go about biohacking “vitality” (what I do to feel great from a biological perspective) and the other covers how I go about biohacking “longevity” (what I do aiming to live long and in good health).

Topic-specific articles

A collection of articles covering a wide range of topics related to biological self-improvement, medicine, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related stuff.

Articles currently under revision are shown in blue while articles that are already published are shown in red.

Selected topic-specific articles:

Experience reports

Accounts of various things I have explored and experimented with throughout the years.

Strong opinions loosely held

Over the last couple of years, I changed my mind many times and I am quite certain that I will repeatedly do so again. I try my best to update my articles accordingly. To get notified when I change my mind on a major topic you may sign up for my newsletter.
